Thank you for visiting the online home of the LAVA Foundation, the non-profit arm of the Los Angeles Volleyball Academy (LAVA) and SMBC Boys. The LAVA Foundation exists with three-fold purpose: first, as the primary source of need-based and program-based financial aid for the benefit of LAVA/SMBC athletes and their families; second, to oversee fundraising efforts for all LAVA/SMBC affiliates, to help generate those opportunity dollars utilized by our financial aid department; and third, to provide companies, individuals, or any other interested parties with an avenue for tax incentive sponsorships, donations, grants, etcetera, which can also be utilized by the foundation for aid purposes.

LAVA is committed to its fundraising efforts and is constantly improving its overall system. Thank you for your interest in helping raise funds for our myriad special assistance programs — your generosity is greatly appreciated.

The Home of LAVA Fundraising — Fundraising Opportunities

Several programs and fundraising opportunities are listed below. Please take a moment to review them to see which best fits your particular situation, if assistance is your goal. Kindly contact the LAVA fundraising team (listed below) with questions, comments, ideas, or any other manner of fundraising or financial aid business.

The most popular and successful self-fundraising option for parents, players, and families to consider when trying to lower their overall tuition cost is the LAVA Media Guide – Print Version.

The LAVA Media Guide is an annual publication printed and distributed in the spring of each year. Hard copies of the Media Guide are provided to all advertisers and all LAVA families who sold ads, posted online, and utilized throughout the season and off-season for marketing purposes, etc.

Families may sell advertisements in the Media Guide with 90-cents-on-the-dollar credit towards their program fees — and have raised more than $100,000 in recent years. The deadline for submission of ads for the print Media Guide is January 31 of each year. For more info, download the Media Guide – Print Info Package by clicking the flyer icon in the middle above or contact Jane Hayward (click here to email) for more details.

The other avenue to help oneself in self-fundraising is via third party sponsorship. For those who have completed the LAVA Financial Aid Application process, it is available to have businesses or other non-related individuals sponsor your player through the non-profit Foundation, and this is tax deductible to the donor. Kindly contact Ron Hamilton (click here to email) for more details.

LAVA and its affiliates have many moving parts and appreciate any and all help. Volunteer some time to help with fundraising events (like E-Waste) or other general events (tryouts, kick-offs, etc) scheduled throughout the season. Kindly contact Nabil Mardini (click here to email) for more details.

The LAVA Media Guide – Online Version is another option for families looking to help themselves via fundraising. While the print version has a January deadline for ad submission and a publication date of mid-spring, the online version of the Media Guide runs year-round.

There are five places on the LAVA website an online advertisement might run. Additionally there are five specific time spans over which an ad might run. All ad locations, time spans, and sales pricing are clearly outlined in the Media Guide – Online Info Package, and families may sell online ads with 90-cents-on-the-dollar credit towards their program fees. For more info, download the Media Guide – Online Info Package by clicking the flyer icon at right or contact Jane Hayward (click here to email) for more details.

The LAVA Foundation General Fund is a tax deductible general fund established to help LAVA help others. Donations to the Foundation (a 501-C3 public benefits and educational non-profit organization that is a separate and standalone corporation from Los Angeles Volleyball Academy, Inc.) are tax deductible. Looking for a way to give back to the community? Have company funds allocated for charitable giving with no as yet designated organization? We ask that you consider the LAVA Foundation — investing in young athletes and the resources they need to provide the opportunity to play volleyball and attain their highest possible level of personal success. Click the flyer icon at right to download our Charitable Giving Package or contact Ron Hamilton (click here to email) for more details.

E-Waste events are free electronic waste recycling events. E-waste is any consumer electronic equipment that has reached its ‘end-of-life’ or ‘end-of-usage,’ whether in full or non-working condition. It includes most electronics or electric appliances with a cord or circuit board, such as computer monitors, desktop hard drives, television sets, printers, laptops, copiers, scanners, fax machines, toner cartridges, power supplies, main frame units, networking equipment, mother board systems, portable electronic players, tablets, home entertainment systems, land-line and cellular phones, and assorted small portable devices. E-Waste events also accept car and forklift batteries. There is a $5.00 service fee for Microwave Ovens. Items not accepted are refrigerators, washers and dryers, fluorescent light bulbs, and household batteries. Please contact Christy Underwood (click here to email) for more details on the next E-Waste event hosted by the LAVA Foundation.
